BRUNO SCHLUMBERGER, The Ottawa Citizen Bruno Schlumberger, a member
of the Ottawa Newspaper Guild, was a finalist in
two categories for National Newspaper Awards for work
published in 2007. This picture, of a French painter
beside a self-portrait, won the Feature Photography
category.
Two members of CWA Canada are among
the winners of print journalism's prestigious National
Newspaper Awards.
Kathryn May and Bruno Schlumberger, both of whom work
for The Ottawa Citizen and are members of the Ottawa
Newspaper Guild, took first place in their respective
categories.
May won in the Politics category
for a series of stories about the mismanagement of
the RCMP pension and insurance funds.
Schlumberger, who was a finalist in two categories,
won the Feature Photography award for his picture of
a painter hiding his face from the camera alongside
a self-portrait. It was a fourth NNA for Schlumberger.
More than a dozen members of CWA Canada were among
the finalists for the 2007 awards, which attracted
1,408 entries from 22 news organizations. In all, there
were 63 finalists in 21 categories.
The winners, announced at a ceremony in Toronto on
Friday, received a $1,500 cash award, while runners-up
received $250 each. The awards, founded by the Toronto
Press Club in 1949, are administered from the NNA office
at the Canadian Newspaper Association.
