Job outsourcing doesn't help economic recovery
As a long-time subscriber of the Sault
Star, I wish
to inform you of my
concern about Osprey Media chain's intentions for outsourcing
of local jobs.
Our
community has just recently begun the long arduous journey
of economic
recovery; now is not the time to reverse this trend.
As quoted in the article
on the SooToday web site, "a
local newspaper is not
just about covering stories and events. It's about being
a strong part of
the
community. It's very short-sighted for a newspaper to cut
itself off from
its community base. If Osprey loses readers and advertisers,
all departments
will have their budgets cut and the quality of the newspaper
will decline."
The Sault Star has always been noted for its
outstanding community involvement and visible support
(ie. Christmas Cheer - Santa Fund, United Way campaigns, Volunteer Sault
Ste. Marie, etc.).
You and your organization's local involvement and participation is well
recognized and greatly appreciated by many local citizens.
Your efforts to help keep local jobs intact will be greatly appreciated.
