Workers, students, public welcome at Ottawa media mixer

Media workers, freelancers, students and the public are all welcome at the CMG Freelance Media Mixer to be held in Ottawa on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

CWA Canada’s largest Local, the Canadian Media Guild (CMG) plays host to this “conversation” with media professionals about industry trends, finding work, negotiating fees and other challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Guest speakers include Globe and Mail photographer John Lehmann, who is also president of the News Photographers Association of Canada; and freelance writer/editor Marion Soubliere, of M.E.S. Editing and Writing Services.

The Mixer runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at 73 North (73 Sparks St., west of Elgin), which is accessible to people who use wheelchairs. Drinks and snacks will be provided. RSVP at Eventbrite.

This is part of CWA Canada’s regular mixer series supporting freelancers and emerging workers in media, creative, knowledge, tech and communications sectors. Partners in this event include CWA Canada Associate Members; Canadian University Press; Editors’ Association of Canada - National Capital Region; Nash 77: Access; News Photographers Association of Canada.

CMG Freelance offers professional support, education and training to bolster freelancers’ skills. We advocate for quality work that improves our industries and respect for the people who do it.
