2012.06.11 | CWA Canada Local 30400 | Communications & Media Workers of Alberta
A special book launch took place today in Red Deer to celebrate two significant anniversaries for CWA Canada's Alberta Local.
The Media & Communications Workers of Alberta has published Wall-to-Wall, which details its evolution from its humble roots in Calgary as Local 449 of the International Typograpical Union to its current position under the umbrella of the Communications Workers of America, the largest media union in North America.
The Local is marking the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Local as well as the achievement 20 years ago of a collective agreement that represents all departments (wall-to-wall) at the Red Deer Advocate.
The commemorative anniversary book was authored and produced by Red Deer writer Johnnie Bachusky, Calgary writer Danielle Wilson and Innisfail graphic designer Karen Fagan.
Jack Wilson, a longtime union activist and former president of the Local, which also represents employees at the Medicine Hat News and the Lethbridge Herald, was to serve as emcee at today's book launch at the Red Deer Public Library.
