As part of its anti-privatization campaign
and in anticipation of National Medicare Week, Nov. 16 to
20, the Canadian Health Coalition is asking people to sign
the Medicare Pledge. It can be found at http://medicare.ca/medicare-pledge .
"This is an important initiative," says Barbara
Byers, executive vice-president of the Canadian Labour Congress. "Given
the current lack of federal leadership on healthcare and
attacks on medicare across the country, we need to continue
to demonstrate broad support for medicare. For example in
B.C., private clinics led by Dr. Brian Day have launched
a court case challenging the Canada Health Act and its defence
of public insurance.
"We must defend access to care
based on need, not on ability to pay."
