Guild seeks input from Locals
on training initiatives

Presidents of CWA Canada Locals are being urged to identify training needs of their members so that appropriate programs can be developed.

The training committee of the Sector Executive Council of The Newspaper Guild-CWA has prepared a questionnaire that has been circulated to all Locals. It will allow members in each Local to weigh in on the subject matter, location, duration and platform that it believes makes the most sense for the union's upcoming training initiatives.

Delegates attending the recent TNG-CWA sector conference identified labour education as both a strategic tool and an essential union service. In a unanimous resolution, they asserted that a strong training and education program is key to the growth and power of the Guild and called on the union to develop such a program.

Now the union is taking action. The training committee encourages Local leaders to collaborate on identifying their group’s training needs and submit one response to the questionnaire, reflecting the group’s collective input.

Please take the time to make sure your Local participates in this assessment. It is imperative that the training committee hear the voice of every Local as it plans this important part of the Guild's future.
