Local undergoes leadership change
amid Canwest crisis

Saskatchewan Media Guild | CWA Canada Local 30199

With employer Canwest Global facing a financial meltdown, it's not the ideal time to have a change of leadership at CWA Canada's Regina Local. But outgoing president Pam Busby is prepared to go above and beyond to smooth the way for her successor.

Karen Schlamp, who was elected president of the Saskatchewan Media Guild (SMG) at a July 4 membership meeting, will not be left to fend for herself during these times of turmoil for the Regina Leader Post. The SMG represents about 40 editorial employees at the Canwest newspaper.

"Given these uncertain times, I will join Karen and other executive members at any meetings with Canwest and, as past president, will attend as many executive meetings/conference calls as I can to ensure a seamless transition," says Busby.

Angela Hall assumes her new position as secretary after garnering more votes than Courtney Wagner. Heather Polischuk and Chris Harbron retain by acclamation their respective posts as vice-president and treasurer.

Andrew Matte, who lost an election bid to be president, is now the shop steward. Members at large include former president Busby, Pat Carlson, Jana Pruden, Barb Pacholik and Ashley Martin.
