Executive has 4 new members, a 5th to come

Four new members have joined the executive of CWA|SCA Canada. They were elected to three-year terms at the spring meeting of the National Representative Council.

Mona Leroux, president of the Montreal Newspaper Guild, now holds the position of Secretary. Joining as At-Large Members: Michael d'Souza, director of human rights for the CBC branch of the Canadian Media Guild; Debbie Newton, president of the Kingston Typographical Union; and Darren Pittman, president of the Halifax Typographical Union.

The voting period closes today for an election that will determine who fills the remaining position on the executive, The Newspaper Guild (TNG) Canada East Vice-President. Vying for the seat are Pittman and Barbara Saxberg, director of education at the Canadian Media Guild (CMG). The Western VP, Scott Edmonds, was re-elected by acclamation at the TNG sector conference in February. Unofficial results should be available later this week.

Director Arnold Amber and Deputy Director Martin O'Hanlon were re-elected by acclamation in March. Gord Holder, of the Ottawa Newspaper Guild, remains as Treasurer, while returning At-Large Members include: Art Lacroix, president of the Schneider Office Employees' Association; Lise Lareau, president of the CMG; and Luis Rufo, secretary-treasurer of the Media & Communications Workers of Alberta.
