Longtime activist Seguin
'retiring from labour movement'

North Bay Newspaper Guild | CWA Canada Local 30241

Saying that he is "retiring from the labour movement," Dan D. Seguin has resigned as president of CWA Canada's North Bay Local.

Seguin, who has "been involved from the get-go in 1988," has been president for 11 years and, as a press operator who works nightshifts at the North Bay Nugget, "it's been a brutal job." However, he hastens to add, it's also "been a blast."

Dave Dale, vice-president of the office unit, will be acting president until an election can be held in February at a general membership meeting. Seguin says he hopes Dale will seek the nomination for the president's position.

Seguin will not be at that meeting though, having booked a one-week holiday on a Caribbean island; his first trip out of Canada in 20 years. He promises to send a "goodbye" note that can be published on this website, along with a picture of him on the beach.

The North Bay Local has about 80 members who work in all departments at the Nugget. The daily newspaper was one of Osprey Media's holdings, most of which were taken over by Quebecor's media division last year.
