New Moncton executive seeks to improve
communications within Local
Moncton Typographical Union
| TNG Canada
Local 30636
The Guild Local at the Moncton Times & Transcript has a new executive and all positions are occupied by newsroom
workers.
Dwayne Tingley, who has been at the newspaper 23 years,
is the new president of the Moncton Typographical Union.
Heather Fiske and Craig Babstock are vice-presidents while
Greg Agnew is treasurer and Alan Cochrane is the secretary.
"The new executive has a goal of improving communications
within the Local and including as many members as possible
in the general operations of the union," says Tingley.
"The executive will also be keeping
a close watch on fast-moving changes at the newspaper because
technology seems to be changing the way we do all of our
jobs — and
not always for the better," he adds.
Elections were held in mid-February, shortly after the Local,
which has 31 members in the newsroom and pressroom, agreed
to a new five-year collective agreement with Brunswick News,
a division of the Irving Group of companies in New Brunswick.
Tingley is sports editor of the Times & Transcript.
He has also been a general news reporter, sports reporter,
lifestyles reporter and worked on several beats at the daily
newspaper. He served as sports editor from 1992-97 then returned
as sports editor in 2003.
Fiske is editor of the newspaper's Life and Times section.
She also edits Leisure and Travel, Home and Garden and several
other products for the newspaper.
Babstock is an editor at large and former sports editor.
He also writes much of the police and crime copy for the
newspaper.
Agnew is the newspaper's chief photographer.
Cochrane is also an editor at large and is assistant business
editor. He is also a former entertainment editor.
