The Canadian Media Guild now represents
Toronto 1 employees in all programming areas, as well as
technical operations and creative services. The Canada Industrial
Relations Board gave final approval to the Guild’s
certification application on August 4, 2005.
The final certificate was worked
out in a meeting at the CIRB’s Toronto office involving executives from Quebecor’s
TVA group and Toronto 1, as well as Guild representatives.
"This means the business of getting
the union in place at Toronto 1 is done,” says CMG
president Lise Lareau. “The
Guild can get on with the job of representing employees and
Toronto 1 staff can start thinking of the Guild as theirs.
People at the station have lived through a very uncertain
time, dealing with an ownership change and the cancellation
of what was their major flagship program, not to mention
the union drive. I'd like to thank everyone for their patience."
The Guild is planning a meeting in September for the new
Guild members at Toronto 1 to begin the process of negotiating
a first collective agreement.
