Conciliation talks set for Halifax Herald

Halifax Typographical Union | TNG Canada Local 30130

A conciliator will attempt to help Halifax Herald workers reach a second contract after talks hit an impasse in October.

Pat Lee, president of the Halifax Typographical Union, says the Nova Scotia Department of Labour has appointed a conciliator, with dates for talks scheduled for Nov. 24 through 27.

The union represents about 100 reporters, editors, clerical and library staff members affiliated with the newsroom of the paper. The current contract expires Nov. 21.

Lee says outstanding issues include proposed changes to jurisdiction, salary increases and improved benefits, including pensions.

The two sides applied for conciliation several weeks ago.
