CBC, Tyee reporters share Labour Reporting Award

A tie has been declared in the competition for the Canadian Association of Journalists’ 2013 Labour Reporting Award sponsored by CWA Canada.

Both winners, who will split the $1,000 award, wrote about the Temporary Foreign Workers program, which has had the Conservative government on the hotseat for many months.

The winning entries were “RBC Foreign Workers” by Kathy Tomlinson and Raj Ahluwalia for CBC News, The National; and “Canada’s Temporary Foreign Workers Controversy: Years in the Making,” by Krystle Alarcon, for The Tyee.

Tomlinson and Ahluwalia are members of the Canadian Media Guild, CWA Canada’s largest Local.

(Richard Littlemore / Globe and Mail); "Asbestos Safety Often Ignored" (Gordon Hoekstra / Vancouver Sun); "Not Working" (Rachel Cave / CBC News - New Brunswick); "Millennials' Job Struggles" (Sunny Freeman / Huffington Post).

The awards gala wrapped up the CAJ’s annual conference held in Vancouver on the weekend.
