Rescheduling of vote at one Local
to delay release of results
Unofficial results of the international
election to choose top officers of The Newspaper Guild
will not be released until balloting has concluded
at one Local that had to delay the vote.
The Sector Election and Referendum
Committee (SERC) will be unable to certify Guild-wide
election results until May 15, three days later than
expected.
So as not to influence voter preference or turnout,
preliminary results will not be made public on Guild
websites until after the errant Local has held its
vote, which is being supervised by the SERC. All other
TNG-CWA Locals in North America and Puerto Rico adhered
to the voting period of April 24-29. Ballots were to
be tallied by each Local's election committee on either
April 30 or May 1 and the results sent by mail to the
SERC.
All members of the international union were eligible
to vote for candidates for the positions of president,
secretary-treasurer and international chair. Voting
in other contests was limited to members who work in
certain districts or geographic areas.
Unofficial results of the race for Canada East vice-president
will be posted on this website as soon as tallies from
election committees at 21 Canadian Locals have been
received. Only members whose workplace is east of Manitoba
were eligible to vote for the Canada East VP.
All TNG-CWA Locals have been asked to email election
results to Editor Andy
Zipser at the Guild
Reporter.
Those unofficial tallies will not be posted on Guild
websites, including this one, until May 11.
