Halifax Typographical Union | TNG Canada Local 30130

A deal reached late last night has averted a strike/lockout of pressroom employees at the Halifax ChronicleHerald.

The 14 members of the Halifax Typographical Union will meet at two o'clock this afternoon to vote on the tentative settlement, says president Darren Pittman.

Bargaining with the assistance of a conciliator continued throughout the day and into the evening Tuesday. An agreement was finally reached at 11:30 p.m., half an hour ahead of a midnight deadline.

The press operators and industrial mechanics have been negotiating since last summer to renew the collective agreement that expired on July 1, 2006.

Details of the tentative settlement are subject to a media blackout until after the ratification vote this afternoon.
