Trust fund established for children
of Guild member killed in car crash

Victoria-Vancouver Island Newspaper Guild | TNG Canada Local 30223

A trust fund has been set up for the two young children of Gavin Fletcher, Sports editor for the Victoria Times Colonist, who was killed in a car crash shortly before Christmas.

Fletcher, 39, died instantly on Dec. 11 when his sedan hydroplaned on a watery stretch of road north of Victoria and spun out of control, striking a rock wall. The editor was heading home from work at about 11:15 p.m. when the accident happened. Shawnigan Lake RCMP say the windy, wet conditions played a role in the accident.

Fletcher, a member for nine years of the Victoria-Vancouver Island Newspaper Guild, leaves behind five-month-old Sophia, six-year-old Claudia, and his wife of 18 years, Natalie.

The popular editor was known for his dry sense of humour, love of cycling, and active role in hockey and adventure sports.

A trust fund for Fletcher's daughters has been set up at TD Canada Trust. Donations can be made to (reference Branch 043), account number 6357524. 324556.
