Rewards up to $5,000 offered
for organizing victories!
CWA Canada is offering rewards
ranging from $500 to $5,000 to individuals who are
instrumental in an organizing victory for the national
union.
Effective March 1, 2006, any current or former
member of a CWA Canada
Local who provides a contact(s) that results in an
organizing victory in Canada will receive an award
under the following criteria:
• $500 if the victory involves
up to 99 new members. The recipient of this award will
receive an additional $10 for each signed Union Authorization
Card used in card check recognition or $10 per vote in
favour of the union in an election victory.
• $1,000 if the victory involves
100 or more, but less than 200 new
members. The recipient of this award will receive an
additional $10 for each signed Union Authorization Card
used in card check recognition or $10 per vote in favour
of the union in an election victory.
• $5,000 if the victory involves
200 or more new members.
CWA Canada officers, staff and other individuals assigned
to organizing
on a full-time basis are not eligible for such awards.

Choosing to take a "front-door approach" to
organizing, the Victoria-Vancouver Island Newspaper
Guild (CWA Canada Local 30223) ran
print and TV ads in February
2006. The ads reached out to employees at non-union
newspapers, broadcast outlets and media-related businesses.
