Bruno Schlumberger Ottawa Newspaper Guild March 2010

The Ottawa Citizen's prize-winning photographer, Bruno Schlumberger has done it again, securing an Award of Excellence from the Society of News Design, for a picture taken in January 2009 of a man panhandling on Rideau Street in a snowstorm. The photo ran with a story about how the city dealt with a 15-centimetre snowfall. / Source: ONG newsletter

Several Ottawa Citizen staffers have won Awards of Excellence from the Society of News Design, an international organization of designers, journalists and visual communicators. A series that ran in December, The Price of Excellence, looked at area children who excel in sports, arts and academics. It was designed by Andreas Heidebrecht and Carl Neustaedter. Also involved were editor Susan Allan, writers Ken Warren, Doug Fischer, Louisa Taylor, Shelley Page and photographer Wayne Cuddington. / Source: ONG newsletter

Randall Denley Ottawa Newspaper Guild March 2010

Citizen columnist Randall Denley is the winner of the 2009 Joan Gullen Award for Excellence for an article that criticized the lack of accountability for lengthy emergency room wait times. The award is presented by the Ontario Association of Social Workers Eastern Branch. / Source: ONG newsletter

A team effort by Guild members at The Ottawa Citizen has earned a nomination for the prestigious Online Journalism Awards, in the category of Multimedia Feature Presentation. The Karsh Generation tells the story of the national capital's most famous photographer and how his portraits touched the lives of thousands.
